Spyglass

What it does

Record your screen — a demonstration, a webinar, a walk through the browser. Pick a screen, a window or a browser tab; a tab shares its sound. The screen fills the frame; your camera sits in a circle or a rounded box in any corner, at any size, or not at all. Click a spot to zoom in on it, and click again to come back.

Every lab on Rookery takes sources in and makes assets out. Spyglass takes a screen take from Sources and builds a recording: the file in your Assets with a poster, the transcript in ten-second lines, and — when you say so — a page on rookeryos.com that anyone with the link can watch, with the transcript beside the player. Loom's move, on your own platform.

The take stays a take: heard in full, every word with its time. The director marks the chapters; one click cuts an episode with a scene per chapter, the take's own sound under it. On a live, Share my screen sends it into the room; the broadcast lays it out large with the faces beside it.

Un-share and the page closes; share again and the same link comes back. Remove the recording and the file stays in Assets — the assets are the product.

The standard behind it

• The recording is the screen at its own size, never cropped or stretched, capped at 1920 wide because that is what the platforms take.
• A take of any length is heard window by window, each under a minute, so a forty-minute webinar is transcribed like a forty-second take.
• A chapter names a moment that exists: every mark the director gives is checked against the transcript before it is kept.
• A share link is a token of sixteen characters, never listed and never indexed; the page reads the recording through one public function that answers only for a shared, ready recording of a workspace in good standing.
• A cursor highlight needs the cursor's position over other windows, which a browser cannot read. We do not fake it; the cursor stays in the capture as it is.
